Minister Sharma directs Radio Nepal to implement programs to enhance transmission capacity

Kathmandu: Communication and Information Technology Minister Rekha Sharma has stressed expanding the broadcasting capacity of Radio Nepal and diversifying its programs.

In a discussion regarding Radio Nepal’s annual proposed action plan, policy and program and budget for the fiscal year 2023/24, held at the Communication Ministry today, Minister Sharma thanked Radio Nepal for giving high priority to the use of digital platform.

Executive director of Radio Nepal, Buddhi Bahadur K.C informed that Minister Sharma had instructed to implement the programs in order to strengthen the broadcasting capacity and make it more effective.

Radio Nepal is starting relay broadcasting from Rukum West, Bajura, Sindhuli and Palpa in the current fiscal year, while Mahanagar FM is going to be operated in collaboration with Biratnagar Metropolitan Municipality.

Similarly, the construction of a provincial broadcasting building with a studio in Dang Hemantpur with an investment of 2 crores will be completed this year.

Minister Sharma, Secretary of the Ministry and Radio Broadcasting Service Development Committee Board of Directors Chair Krishna Bahadur Raut, Joint Secretary Baburam Bhandari and Netra Prasad Subedi, communication experts and officials of the Secretariat were present in the discussion program.

Discussion were also held between the officials of the Ministry and the representatives of Radio Nepal regarding the use of movable and immovable assets including radio transmitters and studio equipment under the committee.

Likewise, matters of creating additional source of income through Radio Nepal’s digital platform (including OTT apps), arranging necessary arrangements with Nepal Telecommunication Company Limited, conducting activities as per the objectives of Tarini Prasad Koirala Memorial Communication Village to promote regional broadcasting professionally, organizing song music training and programs, news and broadcasting and technology related trainings and organizing song/music competitions/conferences at the central and provincial levels were also discussed on the occassion.
